
Clarinet Masterpieces at Cairo Opera House

As part of the Ministry of Culture’s initiatives to introduce world-famous music works to the Egyptian audience, the Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Lamiaa Zayed, is organizing a concert featuring the Cairo Opera Chamber Music Ensemble - Clarinet Quartet “Mohamed Hamdy”, at the Small Hall on Friday, 5 April 2024 at 9:30 p.m.
The concert’s program includes a variety of classical compositions specifically written for the clarinet, including “Divertimento No. 3 for Clarinet and Bass Clarinet” by W. A. Mozart, “Swan Lake” - Clarinet Quartet by P. I. Tchaikovsky, “The Nutcracker” for Clarinet Septet by P. I. Tchaikovsky, “Tritsch-Tratsch” Polka for Clarinet Quartet by Johann Strauss, “Arragonaise” for Clarinet Quartet by Georges Bizet, “Oblivion” for Clarinet Quartet by Astor Piazzolla, “Serenade” for Clarinet Quartet by Franz Schubert, and “No Smoking” for Clarinet Septet by Alan Cook.
Dr. Mohamed Hamdy is the principal clarinetist of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and the Cairo Opera Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist with numerous international orchestras and has participated in various international festivals and competitions, receiving acclaim from both Egyptian and European press. From 2006 to 2008, Dr. Mohamed Hamdy was the Artistic Director of the Cairo Opera House. He founded the clarinet quartet with the aim of promoting and presenting the most important and famous compositions written for this instrument.
