Carmen by Cairo Opera Company at the Main Hall

In accord with the Cairo Opera House’s cultural mission to revive world art classics and international operas, the Cairo Opera Company presents Opera “Carmen” at the Main Hall on Friday, 31 May and Sunday, 2 June 2024 at 8:30 p.m.
The production is directed by Hazem Tayel with the participation of the Cairo Opera Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Mohamed Saad Basha and the Cairo Opera Choir, coached by Mina Hanna. Dances are choreographed by Erminia Kamel, lighting by Yasser Shaalan, and set design by Mohamed Abdel Razik.
The main roles are performed by: Jolie Faizy alternating with Nouresta El Marghany in the role of Carmen; Amr Medhat alternating with Moustafa Medhat in the role of Don Jose; Dalia Farouk in the role of Micaëla; Moustafa Mohamed alternating with Tamer Tawfik in the role of Escamillo; Reda El Wakil in the role of Zuniga; Ramez Lebbad in the role of Lilas Basita; Riham Mustafa alternating with Salma El Gebaly in the role of Frasquita; Gihan Fayed alternating with Noura El Alfy in the role of Mercedes; Ibrahim Nagi in the role of Le Dancaïre; Khaled Samir in the role of Moralès; and Mina Raphael alternates with Ahmed Farouk in the role of Le Remendado.
Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” is a searing depiction of love, obsession and jealousy. It tells the story of Don José, a naïve soldier, who is seduced by the fiery gypsy Carmen. Abandoning his childhood sweetheart and turning his back on his military career, the opera follows José in his pursuit of Carmen’s attention and eventually his downfall.
