
Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble Presents Works by Baligh Hamdy

The Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Khaled Dagher, hosts a concert by Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music at the Main Hall on Thursday, 30 November 2023 at 8 p.m.
Conducted by Maestro Ahmed Amir, the concert includes a selection of works by the late composer Baligh Hamdi who collaborated with renowned singing stars such as Um Kulthum, Warda, Abdel Halim Hafez, Mohamed Rushdi, Moharam Fouad, Shadia, and others. The evening will feature Agfan, Samia Wagdy, Kenzy, Mohamed Hassan, Hossam Hosni, and Moamen Khalil.
Born in 1931, Baligh Hamdi mastered playing the oud at the age of nine. He joined the Fuad I Institute of Music (now the Arab Music Institute) and began his artistic career as a singer. He gained fame in 1957 with his first composition for Abdel Halim Hafez “Tokhunuh”. He later collaborated with numerous prominent singers. Known as the “King of Music” and the composer of melancholic tunes, he passed away in 1993 at the age of 62, leaving behind a rich musical legacy spanning various genres, from romance and patriotism to poems, children’s songs, and religious chants.
