Cairo Opera House is the Guest of Honour at the First Arab Opera Festival in Qatar

The Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Alaa Abdel-Salam, serves as the guest of honour at the first edition of the Arab Opera Festival, which is hosted by the State of Qatar and organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). The events take place from 8 to 10 December, as the Cairo Opera House is considered the oldest opera institution in the Arab world.

The festival opens at the Qatar Opera House on Monday, 8 December 2025, with an honouring ceremony for the composer Omar Khairat in recognition of his contributions and achievements. Afterwards, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Ahmed Atef, presents a concert featuring a selection of Egyptian works by leading composers.
On Wednesday, 10 December the orchestra also performs another concert in collaboration with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, which includes a selection of international classical pieces along with works by Qatari composers.
