In the frame of the Ministry of Culture’s plan to empower and promote the music legacy of Egyptian artists and musicians, the Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Lamiaa Zayed, hosts a concert by Sharara Sextet at the Small Hall on Friday, 19 April 2024 at 8 p.m. 
Featuring Dr. Hassan Sharara, Mohamed Ashraf Sharara, Ahmed Hassan Sharara, Mohamed Mohie Sharara, Dr. Ashraf Sharara, Kholoud Ashraf Sharara, Atef Imam, Ragi Kamal, Hany Zein and Zein El Abideen, the concert’s program includes a diverse selection of compositions by the renowned musician Attia Sharara.
Studying music at the Fouad I Institute for Traditional Music, began his composing career in the 1950s. Besides being a leading Egyptian composer of his generation, he was also a skilled violin virtuoso who performed with numerous renowned ensembles and orchestras in several Arab countries, including Tunisia, Libya, and Algeria. He participated in establishing the Arab Music Institute in Jordan.
In 1980, Attia Sharara founded the “Sharara Sextet”, an ensemble comprising mainly his sons, with the aim of presenting his large body of composition.
Currently, his grandchildren, who are young musicians, also participate in the ensemble. Attia Sharara received numerous awards and honors including: the Encouragement State Prize for Music Composition in 1983 for his work “Concerto No. 2 for Violin and Orchestra”; the Order of Sciences and Arts, First Class in 1985; and the Order of Sciences, Arts, and Culture, Second Class from Sultan Qaboos of Oman in 2005.
